BREAKING: Army Captain Killed During Encounter With Terrorists in J&K's Doda
An Army personnel belonging to the 48 Rashtriya Rifles was killed in action during the ongoing Op Assar in Doda district on Wednesday.
Jammu: An Army Captain was killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The encounter that broke out on Tuesday evening is underway, Defence Officials said. The Army Captain belongs to 48 Rashtriya Rifles.
The Army Captain lost his life while searching for four terrorists believed to be hiding in Assar area of the district.
Earlier in the day, one of the terrorists was wounded in the encounter. The military operation was launched as a part of a massive crackdown against terrorists amid a surge in terror activities in the Jammu region.
The encounter was carried out in a forested area during a cordon-and-search operation, or CASO, launched by a joint security team to track down the terrorists hiding in the Shivgarh-Assar belt, according to media reports.
Army Recovers M4 Assault Rifle
The security forces also managed to recover a United States-made M4 assault rifle and three rucksacks, containing equipment and logistics, from the encounter site. Blood stains were also found near the site where terrorists were believed to be trapped.
Sources revealed that the Army had received a tip off regarding the terrorists' hideout last evening, prompting them to launch a search operation. There was a brief exchange of fire last night and the operation resumed this morning.
