Arvind Kejriwal Was Arrested in March by ED
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener, Arvind Kejriwal has been in Tihar Jail since March after he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges of money laundering pertaining to the Delhi Excise Policy case.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court allowed the Enforcement Directorate's plea to stay the trial court's bail order for Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor policy excise scam.
The Delhi High Court said the trial court’s order “reflects perversity” and held that the lower court did not “appropriately appreciate” the material placed before it by the Enforcement Directorate.
The bench of justice Sudhir Kumar Jain stayed bail order granted by the trial court on June 20. The bench had reserved the order on June 21 after the agency challenged the trial court's decision, which has been put on hold until the ruling.
Kejriwal later appealed to the Supreme Court against the high court's interim stay order on Saturday. The Supreme Court postponed hearing on Kejriwal's plea, stating that it preferred to wait for the high court's decision on the matter.
