Mumbai: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan received a death threat call on Thursday, November 7. Soon after, Mumbai police registered an extortion case against the accused at Bandra Police Station and launched an investigation into the matter. According to sources, the caller threatened to harm Shah Rukh Khan if Rs 50 Lakh weren't paid as ransom.

Acting swiftly, police traced the unknown caller's number and found that the number was registered in the name of Faizan from Raipur. Thereafter, a police team reached Raipur in Chhattisgarh to nab the accused.  Meanwhile, security has been beefed up outside his Mumbai residence ‘Mannat’.

“Bandra police station received a call threatening Shah Rukh Khan and asking for Rs 50 lakh. An offence has been registered. No arrest has been made yet,” news agency PTI quoted a senior police official as saying. The case has been registered by the Bandra police under sections 308(4) (extortion involving threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of Bharaitya Nyaya Sanhita against the unknown caller who threatened Shah Rukh Khan, the official said.

Police teams have been dispatched at various places for further investigation.

Death Threat to Salman Khan

The latest threat message comes amid a series of death threats received by cops in Mumbai over the past several weeks, allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Most of these targeted Bollywood actor Salman Khan and threatened that the actor would be killed unless he paid Rs 2-crore ransom. Against the backdrop of the firing outside the actor's residence earlier this year, the cops nabbed the senders of these messages and took them into custody. The nabbed individuals include a vegetable seller from Jamshedpur and a tattoo artist from Noida. Mumbai Police have taken them into transit remand and were questioning them.

Death Threat to Yogi Adityanath

Recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath received a death threat, with the called demanding his resignation.

In the message sent on November 3, the sender had threatened to kill CM Yogi Adityanath if he didn't tender his resignation within 10 days, warning him of meeting slain NCP leader Baba Siddique-like fate. Four people were given notice by Mumbai Police in threat message case. The death threat was issued via a message from an unknown number on the WhatsApp helpline number of the Mumbai Traffic Police control room on Saturday.
