Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir officially received the tag of a Union Territory on October 31, after the Centre abolished Article 370 and 35A which gave special rights to the then state of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5. The Centre also bifurcated the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The situation in the valley has come back to normal, with the schools having opened and telephone connections restored. The railway services also resumed in Jammu and Kashmir from November 11. Girish Chandra Murmu resumed the charge as the first Lieutenant Governor of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir on October 31.
