The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will now be focusing on its traditional supporters in the state of Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand. The political party wants to make sure that their supporters don't desert BSP in the upcoming elections. The number of votes received by the party have been decreasing in these states. 

"Moreover, there are new Ambedkarite parties which compete with the BSP in different states. The challenge for the BSP, particularly in Maharashtra, is to retain its old base.” BSP party said.

BSP's vote-share falls

The Mayawati-led party won 10 seats in the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 as compared to winning nothing in 2014. The Bahujan Samaj Party has been garnering low votes even in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, from a high of 206 seats in 2007 to just 19 seats in the 2017 elections. BSP, which has tried to set up a base for itself in Maharashtra for almost two decades, saw its vote-share in the state slipping below the 1% mark in the recent 2019 Lok Sabha polls, far less than it had achieved five years ago. The party wants to perform well in the assembly polls, and claims that it is in the process of selecting candidates for the seats in the Vidarbha region and has received good support. The Bahujan Samaj Party members have also started touring various regions of Haryana.

PM Modi begins campaign for Haryana Polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Haryana's Rohtak on September 8, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the state. The Rohtak rally would be the culmination of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra', which began last month in Kalka. BJP party chose to hold the rally in Rohtak, which is considered to be the bastion of veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. He also laid the foundation stone for several development projects during the Haryana campaign.

Maharashtra Elections 2019

Just like the Haryana elections, the Legislative Assembly elections for Maharashtra are also coming up in October. All the political parties are preparing for the elections. The current CM of Maharashtra BJP's Devendra Fadnavis has been in power since 2014. And from the Congress party, Balasaheb Thorat has been named the President for Maharashtra elections, he replaced Ashok Chavan for the elections.
