Sharing his thoughts on pop culture former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Wednesday took to Twitter to recommend an HBO miniseries - Chernobyl, which is currently streaming on Hotstar. Calling the five-episode long show the most compelling TV, Abdullah said that one must clear the next evening and binge watch the whole show.
The miniseries is based on the nuclear disaster in Soviet Ukraine that shook the world in 1986 depicting the gripping sketch of events that resulted in the catastrophe and its immediate aftermath.
The show has been acclaimed worldwide for authentically portraying Soviet life in that era taking care to mirror even minor everyday things like typical provincial babushkas talking outside, the kitchen supplies and utensils, etc. The show has also been credited for skillfully portraying the characters with deep motivation and the ruthless drilling of the Soviet mind which shackled Ukraine during that era.
Earlier in February both Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti had indulged in yet another pop culture recommendation by praising a local Kashmiri band's fan tribute ' For the Throne' for getting featured by the popular HBO-hit show Game of Throne's official Twitter handle.
Abdullah had praised the band saying that it was 'one of the best GoT tributes anywhere' while Mufti had wished someone from the national media would do a story on their achievement.
Both the Kashmiri politicians have often made pop culture references on Twitter.
