UP man slapped with 128 crore bill
In contrast, previously in July, the Power Department in Uttar Pradesh had sent an electricity bill for Rs 1,28,45,95,444 to an elderly resident Shamim, a septuagenarian from of Hapur district. This hefty bill was given to him inspite his light load of 2 KW. Shamim, residing in Chamri village with his wife said that he had approached the Electricity Department to rectify the error. Agreeing to the technical fault, Ram Sharan - assistant electrical engineer had responded that Shamim will receive his updated bill.
Alleging that the Power department had threatened to cut off his supply if he does not pay, he said, “No one listens to our pleas, how will we submit that amount? When we went to complain about it, we were told that they will not resume our electricity supply unless we pay the bill.” Shamim told reports that his monthly electricity bill is around Rs 700 and Rs 800. “But this time, the Electricity Department has given me the bill of the entire city,” he said.
