One Naxal deputy commander and one police jawan have been killed in an encounter that broke between the Maoists and security forces in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. According to the Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) (Naxal Operations), Suraj Singh Parihar stated that while another jawan was injured during the encounter, another died of a heart attack.
The encounter
According to reports, the police had received information about increasing Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh. They had also received a tip-off that the Naxals were planning to disrupt the Chitrakoot Assembly elections and were planning an ambush operation. Just after receiving this information, the police and the security forces put up cordons in the region. Immediately after that, an exchange of fire broke out between the Maoists and the police. Further, one Naxal deputy commander's body was recovered along with arms and ammunitions. The commander was identified as Deva Kawasi. Reports suggested that Kawasi has previously been involved in many activities in the past. According to the police, it is speculated that more Naxals in the area have been injured during the encounter. Further, the police have also recovered a diary that describes the training module and the modus operandi of the Naxals.
