CM Yogi Pushes For Revamping Kashi, Mathura At Ayodhya's Record-Breaking Deepotsav

Ayodhya: Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya on Wednesday transformed into a dazzling spectacle, illuminated by over 25 lakh diyas along the Saryu River during the eighth edition of Deepotsav, the first ever since the inauguration of the Ram Mandir , held on the eve of Diwali . This year’s celebrations marked the first Deepotsav since the consecration of the Ram Lalla temple on January 22. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the festivities, joined by his cabinet colleagues and Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.During the celebrations, Adityanath highlighted the significance of Ayodhya's transformation as evidence of the "double-engine government" fulfilling its promises. He asserted that similar developments should occur in Kashi and Mathura by 2047, coinciding with India’s centenary of independence. The Chief Minister criticized the opposition for obstructing the government’s growth agenda, vowing that these "barriers" would be overcome. He framed Ayodhya’s resurgence as a pivotal step in Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's vision for advancing the heritage of Sanatan Dharma.Cultural Extravaganza and Community ParticipationThe entire city was adorned with lights, with temples, streets, and homes radiating festive cheer. In addition to the record-setting display of lamps, the event also saw 1,121 devotees performing an "aarti" simultaneously. Cultural performances showcased diverse folk traditions from various Indian states, enriching the Deepotsav experience. The grand event was supported by over 30,000 volunteers, illustrating a community united in celebration. The growth of Deepotsav has been remarkable, with lamp displays rising from 171,000 in 2017 to over 2.5 million in 2024, setting new Guinness World Records for both the largest oil lamp display and the highest number of people performing an "aarti" together.
