Sahodari Foundation's ‘Kovai Rainbow Festival’
According to Sahodari's official website, the foundation had celebrated its first Pride festival called the ‘Kovai Rainbow Festival’ in 2009. The foundation started by transgender activist Kalki Subramaniam had reportedly garnered only five participants. Almost after ten years, the foundation has returned to celebrate LGBT pride. After the Supreme Court struck down section 377 of the Indian penal code - decriminalising same-sex relationships in September 2018, the foundation hosted a range of events from July 25- August 25 celebrating Pride month. While the Pride Parade was planned on August 24, it was rescheduled to October 13 for security reasons.
Legoland's 'Smallest Pride Parade'
Meanwhile, during Pride month in June, LEGOLAND had flaunted its LGBTQ+ pride by hosting the smallest Pride parade of the year, as per international news reports. Set in MINILAND, the kids' amusement park inside the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Westchester in New York, the parade features recreation of parts of New York City. Two floats bearing the legends 'Pride' , 'Love is Love' and an enormous “Stonewall 50” billboard was displayed along with a number of bedazzled miniature New Yorkers dancing in a recreated mini-Times Square, as seen in visuals shared by LEGOLAND. The LEGOLAND parade celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall rebellion and the birth of LGBTQ Pride.
