Amid the ongoing investigation against Punjab’s Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in the alleged drug smuggling and supplying cartel, some shocking links of Khaira’s alleged Pakistan connection have shocked the entire political arena. It has allegedly surfaced that Khaira was in constant touch with notorious drugs smuggler, Gurudev, who was having an association with a Pakistan-based drugs smuggler. According to the details accessed exclusively by Republic, the police have traced call details of the arrested Congress MLA and Gurudev and are probing further to ascertain more facts about the suspicion that has emerged.
According to the source-based details accessed by Republic, the Punjab police have reportedly traced call details of Sukhpal Singh Khaira, wherein it was found that Khaira was allegedly in touch with alleged drugs Mafia Gurudev Singh before his arrest in March 2015. Further, it has been revealed that they both used to pass messages to each other with the help of accused Gurudev Singh’s sister Charanjit Kaur, who is hiding in the United Kingdom (UK) at present. As per information, Charanjit Kaur is also wanted in a similar case and has been declared a proclaimed offender by the Punjab police.
Sukhpal Singh Khaira spoke to the alleged drugs mafia 65 times in 11 days, says source
A police source informed Republic that the call details traced by the state police between Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira and alleged drugs dealer Gurudev Singh are reportedly the only ground on which the Punjab police have arrested Khaira. During the investigation, it was found that Khair allegedly spoke to Gurudev Singh, 11 times, a day before the arrest of Gurudev Singh and his eight associates on March 5, 2015.
Not only this, it also has emerged that as many as 65 calls were made between Congress legislators Khair, Gurudev Singh and Charanjit Kaur in 11 days before March 5, 2015. All this communication allegedly took place with the help of Sukhpal Singh Khaira’s PA.
Now, in the latest development, it has been found that Khaira was indirectly connected to a Pakistan-based smuggler, identified as Imtiyaz Ilias Kala, through Gurudev Singh. Moreover, it is also being claimed that Sukhpal Singh Khaira used drug money brought to India from Pakistan, during his election campaign for the Punjab Assembly elections. The Punjab police are investigating to ascertain the facts related to all the allegations.
Notably, the Congress legislator, after his arrest in the drugs smuggling case, has been claiming that the case under which he was arrested was struck down by the Supreme Court and that the action by the Punjab police was illegal. He and his family even alleged political vendetta by Punjab’s Bhagwant Mann government in the case.
Responding to the allegations of political vendetta, the Punjab government said that the action is in continuation to the crackdown on drug mafias and it is not going to stop unless the drug mafias are cleaned up from Punjab.
Meanwhile, Khaira has been sent to 14 days judicial custody by the court. Further investigation into the case is being proceeded.
