Congress plans padayatras on Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary
The Congress party has planned a week-long celebration including a massive padayatra to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi from October 2-9.
The Congress party has planned a week-long celebration to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi from October 2-9. In a circular released by AICC (All India Congress Committee) General Secretary KC Venugopal on September 4, the party has announced the organisation of 'Padayatras' throughout the country. In order to spread the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi across the nation, the Congress party has planned massive Padyatras on October 2 at all state levels. During the padayatras, the Congress leaders and other supporters have been asked to wear Gandhi topi, carry photographs of Mahatma Gandhi and chant appropriate slogans to spread the message of Mahatma Gandhi.
Congress' grand plan
From October 3-9, the Grand Old Party has planned various activities at the state and district levels to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. During the week, lectures, seminars and debates will also be organised in which subject experts will share the values and ideals for which Gandhiji stood for. Venugopal has also asserted that the theme of the programme will be 'relevance of Mahatma Gandhi in today's social, political and economic scenario' in the country.

BJP to organise Padyatra
Earlier in July, PM Modi instructed all BJP MPs to carry out 'padayatra' in every Lok Sabha constituency between October 2 and October 31 to mark the occasion of 150th birth anniversary Mahatma Gandhi. The Padyatra movement will mark the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel from October 2-October 31. Giving details of the programme, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi had stated that 10 groups will be made in every constituency in which the MP and other BJP leaders will carry out the padayatra for 15 kms each every day till October 31.

The nation will celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. Marking the occasion, PM Modi has announced an array of projects including the Swachhta campaign and action-plan to get rid of single-use plastic.
