Congress leader Ajay Maken slammed BJP MP Vijay Goel for violating the Odd-Even rule which has been implemented in the national capital from Monday and asked him to "grow up". Taking to Twitter, Maken wrote that as a lawmaker how can Vijay Goel deliberately break the law? He added that he has been the most vocal critic of CM Kejriwal but he will never "contribute to air pollution" as a way of protest.

Here's his tweet:

Goel deliberately flouted Odd-Even rule

Maken's remarks came after Goel and Delhi BJP in-charge Shyam Jaju travelled in an odd number car from the former's residence to ITO, on a day when only even number cars were allowed on the roads. He was promptly stopped by the Delhi traffic police and fined a sum of Rs. 4000. When Goel informed that he did not carry that much cash, as per procedure, Delhi traffic police informed him that he will have to pay the fine in court. In 2016, Goel had violated the first edition of the Odd-Even scheme and paid a penalty of Rs. 2,000.

On being questioned as to why he was knowingly flouting the law, Goel said that his protest was symbolic to show that the Odd-Even scheme was a political gimmick. He added that his protest was done to expose the AAP's drama. Questioning the need for Odd-Even when stubble burning was the cause, he added that the AAP government failed to address pollution.

Under the scheme, which is now implemented and will be in place till 8 PM, non-transport four-wheeled vehicles with registration numbers ending with an odd digit (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) will not be allowed on the roads on November 4, 6, 8, 12 and 14. Similarly, vehicles with registration numbers ending with an even digit (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) will not be allowed on the roads on November 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15.
