Congress takes on Nirmala Sitharaman's 'millennial mindset' remark
The Congress party took a jibe at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her 'millennial mindset' remark for economic slowdown, saying blame everyone but BJP.
The Congress party took a jibe at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her remarks that the automobile sector slowdown was due to factors like change in the mindset of millennials, with party leader Abhishek Singhvi saying blame everyone but the BJP's handling of the economy.
Reacting to her remarks, Congress leader Singhvi tweeted: "Yes..that's great. Blame the voters..blame everyone but BJP's handling of the economy Mrs. Finance Minister."
The Congress, in a tweet from its official Twitter handle, also took a dig at Sitharaman for her remarks.
"So the decline in bus and truck sales is also because millennials have stopped buying them as much as they used to. Isn't that right Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman?" the Congress party said.
In a tweet on Wednesday, the Congress leader also questioned how the economy will cross 5 trillion dollars in view of the prevailing circumstances.
"Modi Ji's Twitter followers have crossed 50 million. The economy will cross 5 trillion (dollars), but how? Youths are not getting jobs, will you hold opposition responsible for this too. Uber, Ola has ruined everything," he said. "Whatever good has happened, has been done by us (Modinomics). Whatever bad has happened, has been done by others (Nirmalanomics). Then, why have people elected you? (Publiconomics)," he said in another tweet.
The Congress, in a tweet, also attacked the government over a media report claiming that crores of stocks in investor wealth has been wiped off in the first 100 days of the Modi government's second term.
"Despite their promise of protecting wealth creators, the government's disastrous policies have wiped away Rs 12.5 lakh crore of investor wealth in the last 100 days. Unlike the FM's excuses, these are the real reasons for it: Demonetisation, GST, Tax Terrorism," the party said.
Nirmala Sitharaman's ‘Millennial Mindset’ comment
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that the automobiles industry is being affected by BS6 (Bharat Stage) and the mindsets of millennial, as reported by news agency ANI. Nirmala Sitharaman, addressing the reporters, stated that it is the mindsets of millennial who are preferring app-based taxi service including Ola and Uber rather than committing to buying an automobile which is affecting the auto sector.
"The automobile industry is now affected by BS6 and the mindsets of millennial, who now prefer to have Ola or Uber rather than committing to buying an automobile," the Finance Minister said.
Shiv Sena says 'Listen to Manmohan'
BJP's saffron ally, Shiv Sena backed former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's remark on the slowdown of the economy. In an editorial, Uddhav Thackery's party said: "The kind of gross situation that has arrived in the nation due to the economic slowdown was warned by Manmohan Singh years back. It also stated that there is no hesitation in saying that Manmohan Singh knows and understands the country's economy. You have to believe him when he says that the country will be doomed if the economy is not in track. National interest lies in listening to Manmohan Singh's advice."
