As the saffron alliance is yet to agree on a common name on who will be taking oath as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Congress has come forward and attacked the BJP. Vijay Wadettiwar, Congress Party's Leader of Opposition in the Assembly conducted a press conference on Saturday and said, " BJP is not good for Maharashtra and people know it. Earlier it was BJP's time and now it's Sena's time."

Opposition's Role in the Maharashtra Assembly

Vijay also confirmed that the Congress party will be taking up the role of opposition in Maharashtra Assembly. However, Wadettiwar said that if the Shiv Sena wants to discuss an alternative other than BJP, they should approach Congress.

The Congress leader also launched an indirect attack on BJP's Pankaja Munde losing the assembly elections. "Jaisi Karni, vaisi bharni," (you reap what you sow). In the Parli seat of Maharashtra, Pankaja Munde of the BJP was contesting against Dhananjay Panditrao Munde of the Nationalist Congress Party.

Poll results in Maharashtra

The results for 288 Assembly constituencies of Maharashtra were declared on Thursday with the saffron alliance winning a combined tally of 161 (BJP- 105, Sena -56) to award CM Devendra Fadnavis a second term. However, the comeback of the 'Maha- Agadhi' alliance (NCP-Congress) took the Mahayuti by surprise as the NCP bagged 54 seats while the languishing Congress too bagged 44 seats. Though the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance will form the next government, it was handed a diminished mandate compared to 2014 where it won 185 seats.
