CPI on Hindi Diwas: Language shouldn't be used for divisive purpose
Communist party of India (CPI) on Saturday targeted Amit Shah over the 'one language' remarks made by the Home Minister on the occasion of Hindi Diwas
Communist party of India (CPI) on Saturday targeted Amit Shah over the 'one language' remarks made by the Home Minister on the occasion of Hindi Diwas and demanded him to withdraw his statement. In a statement issued by CPI, the party has stated that there is a need to respect, protect and nurture diversity of the nation so that unity is ensured. The statement further stated that Amit Shah's views are 'an attempt of NDA Government to impose Hindi as a part of Hindutva agenda of RSS', which CPI alleged will divide the nation.
CPI questions Amit Shah's remarks
Speaking to Republic TV in the matter, CPI's National secretary D Raja said that the party does not agree with the Home Minister on the imposition of Hindi language throughout the country. He further alleged that the BJP is using 'language as a tool for divisive purpose and polarise people'.
"We don't agree with him, there is a unity in diversity in our country all our languages must be promoted, preserved and treated equally. What is this Hindi, Hindutva and Hindustan? It is nothing but an ideology and agenda of RSS. In several parts of the country people are already agitated and questioning his statement. This will further lead to assault on our unity and integrity. They are using the language as a tool for divisive purpose and polarise people. It is their agenda of One nation one culture, one nation one religion, one nation one langue, one Nation one election," D Raja said speaking in the matter.
BJP counters CPI
Countering CPI's statement and retreating his party's stand, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said that the saffron party respects all language and diversity of nation. He rejected the claims of CPI, adding that 'Hindi is the language which unites the people across the country and it should be propagated'.
"What Amit Shah ji has said is on the occasion of Hindi Diwas and is in consonance with the spirit of the constitution of the country. Hindi language has been given a special and unique status under the Constitution. Hindi is the language which connects more than 60 crore Indians and thus Hindi should be propagated throughout the country. We respect all languages and linguistic diversity of the country. No leader should oppose or hate Hindi to hurt the sentiments of the Hindi-speaking community. Certain irrelevant, regional parties can't rise above petty politics and respect the principle of unity in diversity. PM Modi and Amit Shah believe in the philosophy of uniting India, be it - abrogation of Article 370 or abolition of the malpractice of Triple Talaq. The opposition believes in the philosophy of dividing India on the basis of Religion and region," said BJP's Gaurav Bhatia.
Amit Shah's one language pitch
On Saturday, speaking on the occasion of Hindi Diwas in Vigyan Bhawan, Home Minister Amit shah said that Hindi is the most widely spoken language which unites people across the country. Taking to Twitter, the Home Minister also said that India has many languages and every language has its importance. However, he insisted on the need for one language that becomes India's identity internationally.
