Delhi Police arrest 2 for issuing threats to DCW chief Swati Maliwal

The Cyber Crime Unit of Delhi Police has arrested two persons on Friday for allegedly threatening the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal and her husband Naveen Jaihind. In September, Maliwal had slammed the Delhi Police for not registering an FIR and taking any action against the spa owners for allegedly sending her threat calls. The DCW has been fighting against the massage and spa parlors across the city who were allegedly running sex rackets under the guise of spa services. The DCW had inspected many places in Delhi and four FIRs were also registered which led to the shutting down of many spas in the city.

Swati Maliwal took to Twitter on Saturday and stated, "The spa owners became so furious after we busted their sex racket that they threatened to kill me and my family. Two have been arrested now after the police was summoned. We tie the shroud on the head and walk. We are not afraid."

'Two accused have been arrested'

"In response to DCW Chairperson's complaint regarding threatening calls received from some unknown spa owners, two accused persons were identified during the technical investigation. They have been arrested by Cyber Crime Unit (CyPAD)," a statement by the Delhi Police read.

The DCW chief had alleged the owners of the spas are making threat calls to her, the recording of which she had sent to Delhi Police a week back and complained to register an FIR against them. "There had neither been any FIR nor any arrests," complained Maliwal, prior to the arrests. Maliwal had filed the complaint on September 20 after which she submitted the audio recordings of the alleged threat calls made to her. Maliwal claimed that the Delhi Police had insisted on taking police protection but she refused the protection demanding action on the matter than mere protection.

Over 5,000 spas in the capital city

Earlier in October, the DCW had sent a detailed report to the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal recommending the required measures in order to stop the alleged sex rackets under the garb of spas and massage parlors. The report also blamed the authorities for letting the mushrooming of the spas and massage parlors in the city. The DCW’s investigation revealed that there are only 339 licensed spas in Delhi under the three civic bodies. However, an online phone directory showed over 5,000 registered spas in the capital.
