It was reported that a 54-year-old man threw acid on a minor girl in the Anand Parbat area. The accused then drank from the same bottle and died.
New Delhi: The national capital was rattled with another incident of crime against women on Thursday. It was reported that a 54-year-old man threw acid on a minor girl in the Anand Parbat area of central Delhi. The accused then drank from the same bottle which claimed his life, police said.
The girl was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment and discharged with minor burn injuries.
The accused identified as Prem Singh attacked the 17-year-old girl in front of her house. He was already undergoing trial in connection with a rape, the police informed.
"On Thursday, we received a PCR call regarding an acid attack at our Anand Parbat Police Station," a senior police officer said.
Upon the police's arrival at the scene, both the girl and the man, identified as Prem Singh, had already been transported to a hospital.
"The injured girl told police that her mother had already got a case of rape registered against Prem Singh and he was out on bail to attend a marriage function at his house," said the police officer.
At around 7:30 am on Thursday, Prem Singh allegedly coerced a girl into convincing her mother to withdraw a rape case. Faced with her refusal, Singh took drastic measures, hurling acid at the girl and ingesting the corrosive substance himself. Tragically, Singh succumbed to the effects of the acid during the course of his medical treatment.
