The law enforcement agencies from different states and the Centre including the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have been probing the sources and investments of the proceeds of crime, generated from his gang’s illegal activities.

In a short span of time, Lawrence Bishnoi and his gang members have grown rapidly in the past few years. Amid the ongoing investigation by the probe agencies against the gangster and his associates, Republic Digital observed how they have invested their money in crime and in other sectors.

Lawrence Bishnoi, a law student of Punjab University, always wanted to make his influence felt in the student politics. In fact, it was in student politics where Lawrence began to invest a big chunk of his money. Investing money in student politics earned him good influence leading him to gain his contacts with Goldy Brar and Sampat Nehra and created a base of strong friendship between them.

Police are investigating benami properties and properties of relatives of criminals

Bishnoi's gang members are also allegedly involved in the sale of illegal liquor from Haryana and Rajasthan. Not only this, they are largely involved in illegal mining as well. Through these organised crimes, Lawrence managed to earn both money and power, which eventually led him to sail to the top of the crime world.

He and his henchmen slowly got into investing in real estate, plots, restaurants, cab services and wine shops. Subsequently, when the police started targeted action against the gang, Lawrence very cleverly led his friends and partners to safely escape to the foreign soils. This is the time when Bishnoi and his associates allegedly came in contact with the several Pakistani bookies.

The shrewdness and reported connivance of Lawrence Bishnoi's investment also came to fore during several raids that were conducted by the central agencies. Detailed investigation revealed that a large number of properties were purchased in Haryana’s Karnal in the name of a Delhi Police official.

It was also disclosed that though the police official’s salary was Rs 49552, he had purchased properties worth Rs 94 lakhs. The Delhi police have attached those properties and the police official has been kept under scanner.

The probe revealed that the Delhi police official was a relative of Surendra Singh alias Chreku, who was the henchman of Lawrence Bishnoi. He has been arrested under charges of the UAPA.

The probe agencies are also subsequently investigating several benami properties and the properties that have been purchased in the name of relatives of criminals associated with Lawrence Bishnoi.
