Jammu and Kashmir law enforcement is all set to receive a technology boost. The Central government has asked the Jammu and Kashmir Police to provide an online grievance gateway for the citizens. Accordingly, the J&K Police has initiated the process of setting up an online portal along with a mobile application for receiving and registering complaints and grievances from the general public. A CCTV network for Srinagar is also on the anvil.
New Technology boost for J&K residents
According to the officials, the Jammu & Kashmir Police on Saturday invited bids from various companies who could set up the online portal and the mobile application in the shortest period of time. The police also mentioned that the work of creating the portal must be completed within 45 days of it being assigned. The entire online portal and application are said to go live after the internet services are resumed in the region as part of the security measures in place following the abrogation of Article 370. This initiative of the Jammu and Kashmir police would help ensure efficient law and order enforcement in the region and help make it easier for citizens.
As per the tender request, this Public Grievance portal and mobile app will enable any person to log on and lodge a complaint. This system will allow the user to upload hard copies of the complaint and various types of media like images or videos associated with the grievance. The user can track his complaints as he will also receive an acknowledgment of the receipt of the grievance, a tracking identity number for checking the status of the complaint and SMS alerts on the disposal of the same. The mobile application will be available on both Android and iOS platforms. The existing system of manual grievance redressal will also be modified for the online portal and mobile application.
To avoid fake complaints, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has demanded the bidders provide proper authentication of the user. The entire system will contain the highest standards of authentication encryption and feedback. The user will also be able to give online feedback in case of being unsatisfied with the disposal of the grievance. There will be three categories provided on the portal and application to help the Jammu and Kashmir police to review and classify the complaints on their own system. Classification of the complaints received will be under normal, urgent and extremely urgent.
CCTV network for Srinagar
Along with the online portal and mobile application, Jammu and Kashmir police are soon going to set up closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance network in various locations of Srinagar. Areas such as JVC Hospital in Bemina, Syed Manzoor Chowk, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura, Regal Chowk, Nagbal, Chanapora, Sheeraz Chowk, Noor Bagh, New Bypass in Lasjan and Saraf Kadal will be under this surveillance network. The region will also receive aerial surveillance with newly bought unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and drones, as per sources.
