Mumbai police rescue 17-year-old kidnapped girl from West Bengal

A senior police official said that two accused, identified as Kunal Pandey (30) and Sikandar Shaikh, have been arrested for alleged involvement in the crime.

The Mumbai police on Thursday rescued a 17-year-old minor girl, who was allegedly kidnapped from Mumbai and was forced into prostitution in West Bengal. The police have also arrested two accused, who were involved in the crime.

A senior police official said that the two accused have been identified as Kunal Pandey (30) and Sikandar Shaikh. The accused were booked for alleged rape and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Further legal action into the matter is being taken.

Meanwhile, by solving this case, the Mumbai’s Dharavi police attained a remarkable feat, by managing to solve all the missing children cases of 2023. The police team successfully reunited 35 girls with their parents, reports news agency PTI.

Briefing about the incident, the police official said that in the present case, the girl had gone missing from her Dharavi residence in September. Based on the information shared by the girl’s father, a case of kidnapping was registered against unidentified persons and a probe was initiated.

During the course of investigation, the police received information that the minor girl was at Panjipara in West Bengal. Immediately, a team was dispatched to West Bengal. The team traced the girl and rescued her after conducting a raid.
