Six recent plots that expose the dangerous Urban Naxal design to destabilise India

The Maharashtra Police, assisted by other task forces, on Tuesday launched a country-wide crackdown on Maoist sympathisers in connection with the caste-related violence that had broken out in Pune and Mumbai at the start of the year following the event to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon.

The raids were allegedly carried out based on inputs ascertained from the five persons who were arrested by the Pune Police in connection with the case in June. From the materials recovered from the arrested persons, the laptop of Rona Wilson to be specific, a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also been uncovered. Apart from this, Republic TV has also exposed a number of Maoist plots to destabilise India. Here's a list:

1. The Maoist plot for 'Armed Revolution' in 16 states

A week after the plot to assassinate the Prime Minister came to light, a plan to trigger a mass-breakout of violence was also revealed. Following the arrests of eight Maoists by the Maharashtra ATS in January, the chargesheet in the case, which was accessed by Republic TV, disclosed a massive conspiracy to destabilise the central government. As per the chargesheet, the CPI(Maoist) party was active in almost 16 states and wanted to bring about an armed revolution to change the current dispensation.

The chargesheet alleged that the group had sought to target workers' unions to spread its ideology and that the CPI(Maoist) had split into two, one focusing on the 'golden corridor' between Mumbai and Surat, and the other, in their traditional forest area strongholds.

2. Letter revealing Maoist link to Kashmir terror

In July, Republic TV had accessed a letter allegedly written by one of the persons raided on Tuesday, which talks about a meeting that was held in March 2017, and allegedly involved persons who were arrested by the Pune police in the Bhima Koregaon case. In the meeting, a link between Urban Naxals and Kashmiri separatists had emerged, with the former resolving to broadcast human rights violations by the 'enemy' in Kashmir, and to provide legal aid for the pellet gun case in the Supreme Court. The letter acknowledged the 'special package' given by the Kashmiri separatists to extremist organisations and stone-pelters, and sought the creation of a similar package for 'our interior and urban cadre'. Mention was also made of sending research fellows to interior areas.

3. Attack on the Judiciary and the 'Modi regime'

The same letter that is detailed above, which also bore the CPI(Maoist) letterhead, had also aimed to fight the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), which the letter called draconian and unconstitutional, and claimed, was being used to crush dissent by the 'powerful and repressive Modi regime', citing the latter's growing influence among people.

4. Plot to assassinate the Prime Minister

A letter that was allegedly recovered from the laptop of the arrested Rona Wilson proposed "concrete steps to end Modi-raj".

The letter proposes "another Rajiv Gandhi type incident", allegedly referring to how the former Prime Minister was assassinated on May 21, 1991, by a suicide-bomber in Sriperumbudur in Chennai. "It sounds suicidal", the letter said about the proposal, nonetheless, adding "targeting his road shows could be an effective strategy".

5. Rs 8 crore for annual supplies of weapons and ammo

The same letter, which contained the alleged plot to assassinate the Prime Minister, also contained the following alarming mention:

"I hope by now you have received details of the meeting and requirement of 8Cr for annual supply of M4's with 400000 rounds."

This likely referred to the M4/M4A1 carbine which is a standard firearm used by the US military. As per a Republic TV investigation, 1000 M4 assault rifles and 4 lakh rounds of ammunition could be purchased for Rs 8 crore. 

6. Involvement of Maoists in the Gadchiroli and Surjagarh attacks

A letter accessed by Republic TV in June claimed that in the last 3-4 months, the Maoist cadre had got national-level popularity for actions taken under the guidance of persons who, incidentally, have been raided on Tuesday.

It added: "Especially in December, the attacks carried out by our comrades of Gadchiroli and Chhattisgarh in Surjagarh, despite being less in numbers, brought us a lot of fame", adding, "The publicity and the impression on our enemies who thought our strength to be 500 helped us in establishing our presence. Similar actions which could get us more popularity have to be carried out in future days."
