Customs Thwarts Smuggling Bid of Luxury Items at Delhi Airport, Seizes 59 iPhones
Customs officials at Delhi’s IGI Airport have thwarted a smuggling bid of luxury goods and seized luxury items worth around Rs 69.23 lakh including 59 iPhones.

New Delhi: The Customs officials deployed at Delhi’s IGI Airport have thwarted a smuggling bid of luxury goods and seized luxury items worth around Rs 69.23 lakh including 59 iPhones. The Customs officials also arrested two Indian nationals involved in smuggling of luxury goods and seized the recovered items under Customs Act. Further legal action into the matter is being taken.
A senior Customs official stated that based on profiling, the Customs team stationed at the IGI Airport seized 59 iPhones along with other luxury goods collectively valued at Rs 69.23 lakhs from two Indian nationals who arrived from Milan.
According to the officials, the incident took place on July 14, when the two passengers landed at Terminal 3 of the Delhi Airport. The two passengers arrived from Milan to Delhi on flight number AI 138.
Based on profiling, the two of them were intercepted while crossing the Green Channel at the International arrival hall of Terminal 3 on July 14. Subsequently, on a thorough personal search and baggage examination, 59 iPhones, 2 Airpods, 1 iPad Air and 3 pairs of Gucci goggles, 1 pair of Gucci sneakers were recovered from the passengers.
The above recovered items having a collective value of Rs 69,22,645, were seized under section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. Further, the above said passengers were placed under arrest.
Further investigation into the matter is under progress.
