Kolkata: Cyclone Dana has weakened in Odisha but has caused severe damage in both Odisha and West Bengal. The death toll in West Bengal due to the cyclonic storm has climbed to four from two while in Odisha, the cyclone has not caused any casualties.

Cyclone Dana: Death Toll in West Bengal Reaches 4

Two more persons died in West Bengal due to cyclone Dana, taking the toll to four, officials said on Saturday. A civic volunteer, identified as Chandan Das (31), died on the spot when he allegedly touched a live wire in Bud Bud in Purba Bardhaman district. The incident happened when he was out with a police team, they said.

An employee of the Howrah Municipal Corporation was found dead in a waterlogged road in Tantipara. It was suspected that he died due to drowning, they said. The state on Friday reported two deaths due to electrocution. One person died in Patharpratima in South 24 Parganas district, and another died in south Kolkata's Bhabanipur area, they added.

No Casualties in Odisha due to Cyclone Dana

No casualties have been reported in Odisha so far, after the severe cyclonic storm Dana struck the eastern coast in the early hours of Friday, triggering torrential rain and high-speed winds that uprooted trees and electric poles, and caused significant damage to infrastructure and crops in Odisha and West Bengal.

The landfall started around 12.05 am on Friday between Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara and Dhamra in Bhadrak district of Odisha with wind speeds of around 110 kmph, and ended around 8.30 am.

Cyclone Dana After-Effects: IMD Weather Update Across India

After Cyclone Dana made landfall, causing significant damage in Odisha and West Bengal, regions in eastern Uttar Pradesh, parts of Madhya Pradesh , Bihar , and Jharkhand are likely to experience rainfall till 31st October. Currently, light rain is possible in many districts. According to the Meteorological Department, 19 districts in Bihar, including Nalanda, Banka, Munger, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Katihar, Supaul, Araria, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Jehanabad, Sheikhpura, Gaya, Nawada, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, and Kishanganj, are forecasted to experience cloudy skies and strong winds of 10-20 km/h. These areas may see drizzles on Saturday, keeping temperatures cool.

The Meteorological Department has also issued a drizzle alert for eastern Madhya Pradesh on October 27, 28, and 29. In eastern Uttar Pradesh, rain is likely today, October 26, due to the cyclone’s impact. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) noted that moist winds from the Bay of Bengal are reaching eastern Uttar Pradesh, which may result in light showers in parts of the state.
