In a commendable display of swift action and determination, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) successfully orchestrated the rescue of a 13-year-old girl from the clutches of her kidnapper in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded when the girl was kidnapped near her school in the Fatehpur Beri area of Delhi on July 21, 2021.
The distressed mother of the victim complained to DCW, expressing her anguish over the inaction of local authorities. The DCW member, Firdos Khan, promptly intervened after meeting the grieving mother on August 18. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, she issued a notice to the SHO of Fatehpur Beri and made a personal appeal for immediate action.
Taking heed of the DCW's intervention, the Delhi Police tracked down the girl to Lakhimpur Kheri. In a courageous rescue operation, a team of Delhi Police extricated the young girl from multiple locations across Punjab, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh. Shockingly, during her captivity, the girl was subjected to unspeakable horrors, having been raped by her abductor on multiple occasions.
The main accused, a man in his 30s with whom the victim had interacted online, was swiftly apprehended by the authorities. The survivor's courage in providing crucial information helped authorities piece together the disturbing sequence of events that unfolded during her captivity.
Upon reuniting with the family, DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal and member Firdos Khan offered her unwavering support. They assured the victim and her family that they would work tirelessly to ensure her rehabilitation and well-being. Maliwal highlighted DCW's commitment to apprehending all individuals involved in the heinous act and ensuring that they face the full force of the law.
As the nation grapples with the shocking revelation of this incident, it is heartening to witness the determination of organizations like the DCW to stand as a beacon of hope and justice for those in need.
