Hundreds of police personnel protested on Tuesday

Hundreds of police personnel gathered outside the police headquarters on Tuesday to protest the assault on policemen following a clash with lawyers. Several policemen holding placards that read "We are human in police uniforms" and "Protectors Need Protection" were outside the police headquarters at ITO and urged their seniors to stand with them to save the honour of the uniform. An on-duty policeman was thrashed by advocates outside the Saket Court on Monday. In a video of the purported incident, lawyers were seen beating up the policeman who was riding a bike. One of the lawyers was also seen slapping the policeman. When the policeman was leaving the spot, the lawyer also hit his bike with his helmet.

Boost morale

Retired officers of the Delhi Police have written a letter to Lt Governor Anil Baijal and its chief Amulya Patnaik, saying steps should be taken to boost the morale of the force after the recent stand-off with lawyers. The Delhi Police Retired Gazetted Officers Association (DPRGOA) in a statement issued on Wednesday said it is "deeply concerned" about the incidents of violent clashes between the lawyers and police personnel in the district courts of Delhi.

Lawyer-Police confrontation

The tussle between the lawyers and the police in Delhi has been going on since the clashes outside the Tis Hazari court on November 2 when a dispute broke out over a parking spot. On November 3, the Delhi High Court ordered a judicial inquiry by a retired High Court judge into the clashes between the police and lawyers outside the Tis Hazari court. The inquiry will be completed within 6 weeks. Meanwhile, Republic accessed a shocking video on Monday in which a lawyer can be seen assaulting a policeman outside the main gate of the Saket court in Delhi. The cop does not respond and simply drives away from the spot.
