Delhi's Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) (Traffic Operations), Meenu Chaudhary spoke to ANI about the Police Staff returning to duty after yesterday’s unprecedented 11-hour protest by the Delhi Police Force stated that, “Each personnel of Delhi Police is on work today. We are a disciplined force, we are aware of our responsibilities and fulfil them in any circumstances,” Chaudhary added.
Delhi police declared an ex-gratia payment of ₹25,000
After the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, issued a statement on Tuesday, November 5, in which he assured that the injured policemen would be treated free of cost and also called for requisite ex-gratia compensation to be given to the injured Delhi policemen, Special Commissioner of Police Delhi, Satish Golcha while addressing the protesting police personnel announced that all the policemen who were injured in the Tis Hazari Clash will be given a compensation of at least Rs 25,000 by Delhi Police.
Lieutenant Governor of Delhi appealed for peace
The office of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, issued a statement on Tuesday appealing to both police officers and lawyers to maintain peace. The Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) informed him about the current situation and highlighted the orders of the Delhi High Court. Noting the integral role of advocates and police in the criminal justice system, Baijal called for them to work in harmony. Moreover, he stressed on restoring the trust between the two sides by imparting impartial justice. This statement comes at a juncture when hundreds of police officials staged a protest at the Police Headquarters in the national capital.
Thousands of police personnel had gathered outside the Delhi Police HQ
On Tuesday, thousands of police personnel had gathered outside the Delhi police headquarters against the lawyers who allegedly beat up police officers at the Tis Hazari Court on November 2. Demanding for protection against such violence against cops, Police are demanding a trial against the suspected lawyers and have presented a set of demands. Earlier on Monday, lawyers had protested against the assault outside the Tis Hazri premises demanding arrests of policemen involved in the clash. Both Bar Council of India and the Commissioner have urged the police and lawyers respectively to resume work.
