New Delhi: In the first address to the MPs of the ruling NDA after assuming office for the third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised all the lawmakers to not behave the way Congress MP and LoP Rahul Gandhi did in the Lok Sabha.
The NDA meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, was held amid debate and discussions in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to President Droupadi Murmu's address to a joint sitting of Parliament.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju detailed the discussions held at the NDA meeting and said, "Today, the Prime Minister gave us an important mantra. He said that every MP has been elected to the House to serve the nation. Irrespective of the party they belong to, service to the nation is our first responsibility."
"Every NDA MP has to work by prioritising the country. The PM also guided us well regarding the conduct of MPs and said that every MP should present the matters of their constituency in the House very well as per the rules. He also told us to develop expertise in other major issues of interest," Rijiju said.
"The Prime Minister also made one request. Every MP, along with their family, should visit the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, behind which there was no political agenda. This was an effort to let the entire country know of the contribution of each prime minister, appreciate it, and learn from it," the Union Minister added.
PM Modi's Special Message for Young MPs
During the NDA parliamentary meeting, the Prime Minister addressed the young MPs of the ruling bloc and gave them the ‘mantra’ to succeed in their parliamentary journey as a lawmaker.
He advised them all to behave nicely and stay as much as possible in Parliament to participate in debates and to raise issues of their constituency.
Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan also reacted to the meeting and said, "Learning from the Prime Minister's experience, when we have seen Parliamentary traditions being flouted recently, means a lot. We got his guidance on it today."
Later today, PM Modi will reply to the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to President Droupadi Murmu's address, in the Lok Sabha. Official sources claimed that all members of Parliament of the BJP and its allies were notified about today's meeting and were asked to attend it.
Rahul Gandhi's ‘Anti-Hindu’ Rant
The Congress MP, during his first speech as the Leader of Lok Sabha, accused the NDA camp leaders of dividing people on the communal lines, triggering massive protests from the treasury benches. Drawing massive protest, Gandhi insulted the Hindu community by saying ‘They are violent.'
Such was the commotion over his remarks that Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervened to slam the former for calling the entire Hindu community ‘violent.’
“All our great men have spoken about non-violence and finishing fear...But, those who call themselves Hindu only talk about violence, hatred, untruth…Aap Hindu ho hi nahi,” the Congress MP said. PM Modi intervened, stating that calling the entire Hindu society violent is a serious issue.
