A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on September 23 against Turbo Consultancy Pvt Ltd by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police. The EOW of Delhi Police has accused the private company of duping the Delhi Traffic Police (DTP). The EOW states that the fraudulent company has illegally obtained a contract for the installation and maintenance of ‘Red Light and Speed Check Camera Systems’. The matter came to light after the FIR was registered on Monday on the grounds of the complaint made by the DTP.
Delhi Traffic Police conned
The investigative agency has accused the Turbo Consultancy Pvt Ltd of conning the Delhi Traffic Police. Turbo Consultancy Pvt Ltd allegedly supplied and installed the faulty traffic signals and speed violation check camera system across Delhi. In a suspected scam, the company has conned Rs. 8.5 crore through the contract installing the cameras at 12 prime spots of the Capital. The cameras apparently stopped working within a year, although the firm had a 10-year contract in place.
‘The firm conned the department to the tune of Rs 8.5 crore and the alleged cheating lasted from 2000-2017, after which the Vigilance Branch conducted an inquiry. The traffic signals and cameras were installed in 2000-2007 at SP Marg, Panchsheel crossing, Tughlaq Road, Max Mueller Marg, Barar Square, Dwarka Sectors 1 and 2 and Karol Bagh, among other places,’ according to the FIR.
The firm makes false commitments
The FIR further stated that after the installation the system did not work for the mentioned time period, the equipment lay dysfunctional within a year of purchase. The EOW will also conduct a separate enquiry to figure out how the firm bagged the contract fraudulently going through all the technical tests. The DTP further stated that the firm intentionally perpetrated the conning of the Delhi Police by supplying equipment and technology it was not able to support in the long run.
‘The firm made a false commitment and it was understood that the firm knew the actual position of shortfall of capacity, stocks, the supply of spare, import requirement, service engineer support and the related technology up-gradation. The firm deliberately hid the factual position in respect to the above factors and with the intent to defraud Delhi Police supplied the items it knew that it would not be in a position to support for 10 years,’ the FIR reads.
