Ahmedabad: Maurice Christian, accused of operating a fake court in Ahmedabad and having heard 500 cases in a single year, was presented in court on Monday after completing his remand. His accomplice, Dilip Rathod, was also brought before the court. Since the police did not request further remand for either suspect, the court ordered them to be sent to judicial custody.
The accused fake judge was caught at the City Civil Court of Ahmedabad. An FIR was filed at the Karanj police station following a complaint from Hardik Sagar Desai, the registrar of the Ahmedabad City Civil Court. Samuel Christian, who claimed to be a lawyer, allegedly established a counterfeit courtroom in Ahmedabad, complete with a judge, lawyers, and a clerk, where he issued orders regarding government lands.
During the last trial, the accused, Morris Samuel Christian, made serious allegations against the police, claiming they beat him to force a confession. After hearing his complaint, the court permitted a medical examination for him. The following day, Morris Samuel was again presented in the Metro Court, where his remand application was considered.
Meanwhile, the medical examination report of the accused was submitted to the court, revealing nail marks in only one area of his body. During the hearing, the Station House Officer (SHO) stated that the allegations made by the accused against the police were false.
The court noted that Morris Samuel Christian himself admitted in his testimony to having heard approximately 500 cases in a year. Additionally, the police investigation revealed that he had prior charges registered against him at the Maninagar police station, including offenses under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
