Kotak Mahindra Bank CEO Uday Kotak has revealed a fascinating connect with famed Cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar who passed away at the age of 87 on Wednesday.

Paying tribute to the coach who spotted and honed perhaps the greatest ever batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, as well as a number of his peers who went on to have successful careers in India's favourite sport, Uday Kotak has revealed that Achrekar was also his cricket coach while he was in school.

In his tribute, Uday Kotak says he has fond memories of being taught batting technique and also of being smacked with a stump on rear for dropping catch during fielding practice.

He also talks about how he stopped playing cricket after a head injury:

A number of influential people from all walks of life have paid tribute to Ramakant Achrekar, pupil Sachin Tendulkar chief among them.

Sachin wrote:

Cricket in heaven will be enriched with the presence of Achrekar Sir. Like many of his students, I learnt my ABCD of cricket under Sir's guidance.

His contribution to my life cannot be captured in words. He built the foundation that I stand on.

Last month, I met Sir along with some of his students and spent some time together. We shared a laugh as we remembered the old times.

Achrekar Sir taught us the virtues of playing straight and living straight. Thank you for making us a part of your life and enriching us with your coaching manual. Well played Sir and may you coach many more.

PM Modi also paid tribute:

As did actor Aamir Khan:

The Indian Cricket team donned black armbands at the start of the India vs Australia test match in Sydney.
