Flash Flood Alert Issued for Northeast India, Rain Warning Across Northern States | IMD Forecast
IMD issued a flash flood alert for the northeastern states including Arunachal Pradesh.
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a flash flood alert for the northeastern states including Arunachal Pradesh. The Met Department also issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh on July 1 and 2.
Taking to X, the weather bureau wrote, "Surface runoff/inundation may occur at some fully saturated soils and low-lying areas due to expected rainfall occurrence in the next 24 hours,” highlighting the northeastern states on the attached map.
The predictions stated that various regions are set to experience heavy to hefty rainfall over the next four days. Uttarakhand, particularly, is expected to witness severe weather conditions in the fourth coming days.
From Sunday to July 3, Uttarakhand will likely witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense to very intense spells of rain at isolated places. Heavy rain is expected at some locations, with weighty rainfall likely in others.
IMD Rainfall Forecast
With the onset of the monsoon, the IMD predicted a widespread rainfall across the country, bringing respite from the scorching heatwave.
The Northwest, Central and Eastern India will see fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning.
Delhi-NCR, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh will witness heavy rainfall till July 4 and West Rajasthan on July 2 and 3. The weather bureau issued an orange alert for Bihar for heavy rainfall till July 2.
Meanwhile, widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning are expected across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura for the next five days.
In Saurashtra & Kutch, Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka, the IMD has predicted isolated heavy rainfall today, July 1. Gujarat Region, Konkan & Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra till July 4.
