Four people have been arrested here for reportedly robbing a pharmacy employee of injections worth Rs 2,24,000 used for treating cancer patients, police said on Sunday. The incident was reported on August 13.

Aman Sharma (26), Vikas Swami (30) and Sakib Khan (28) were arrested for executing the robbery on the pretext of purchasing the injections. Prabhu Jha (32) was arrested for buying these stolen injections, they said.

According to the police, Khan, who introduced himself as Sudhir Dixit, called up the pharmacy to place order for the medicines.

Khan placed the order for six injections worth Rs 2,24,000 used for treating cancer patients. He then asked the pharmacy employee, Mohd Anas, to hand over the medicines to him near Red Fort, they said.

When the employee reached the venue, Khan asked him to accompany him to Okhla in south east Delhi to receive the payment. But their scooty was overtaken by two bike-borne men, who slapped Anas and took away the medicine bag from him, police said.

“A case was registered under IPC sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) at Sunlight Colony Police Station,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) R P Meena said.

"We received a tip-off that the three criminals involved in the commission of crime would go to Gurgaon via Kalindi Kunj. We laid a trap and arrested the accused,” he said.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that they knew about medicines as they had worked with pharmacies in the city. They planned to steal the costly injections as they did not have money due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, the DCP said.

The accused told the police that they sold all the injections to Dhruv Jha and Prabhu Jha for Rs 1.10 lakh, he said.

Later, Prabhu Jha was arrested from Geeta Colony area and four stolen injections were recovered from his possession, police said.

The DCP said raids were conducted at the residence of Dhruv Jha in Loni. He said search is on to find Dhruv Jha who is absconding.

A mobile phone, toy pistol, scooty and the motorcycle used in the commission of crime have also been recovered, the officer added.
