Tiruchirappalli: M Rohini, an 18-year-old girl from the tribal community in the Pachamalai Hills of Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirappalli, became the first tribal girl from her district to get admission to National Institute of Technology (NIT) by successfully clearing the highly competitive Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

Rohini became the top scorer among students from 29 tribal schools across the state by scoring 73.8 per cent in JEE Mains. Her exceptional performance earned her a seat in the Chemical Engineering program at NIT Trichy, allocated through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).

Speaking to news agency ANI Rohini said, “I am a student from a tribal community who studied in a tribal government school. I appeared in the JEE exam and secured 73.8 per cent. I have secured a seat in NIT Trichy and I opted for Chemical Engineering. Tamil Nadu state government has come forward to pay all my fees, I thank the CM for helping me. I performed well because of my headmaster and the staff of my school.”

Rohini also praised her teachers for their unwavering encouragement and support over the past two years. "I cannot forget my teachers' dedication. They motivated me to take all major exams, including NEET, CLAT, and JEE. I've always dreamed of becoming an engineer, and now I have the chance to study at NIT Trichy. I hope to inspire and assist students from my school to achieve similar success," she added.

Rohini's parents, both construction workers, had migrated to Kerala in hopes of securing a better future for their children. Her achievement not only brings pride to her family but also serves as an inspiration to many in her community.
