Gonda Hit & Run Case: Republic Confronts Brij Bhushan, BJP MP Admits Vehicle Part of Son's Convoy
The Republic Media Network on Thursday confronted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and Kaiserganj MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Lucknow: The Republic Media Network on Thursday confronted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and Kaiserganj MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over the recent incident where his son and BJP Lok Sabha candidate Karan Bhushan Singh’s convoy-linked vehicle mowed down two people in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh.
Admitting that it was his son Karan Bhushan Singh’s convoy that mowed down two people, the BJP leader said that the ‘driver will take the responsibility’ of the incident.
“Karan Bhushan Singh's vehicle was 3 km away from the car that killed two persons. Those kids fought with a woman and later their car lost balance, hitting two persons. The incident is painful and shouldn't have happened,” Singh told Republic.
Karan, 30-year-old, was fielded by the BJP from his father’s seat, which went to the polls in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha election on May 20.
Demand For Justice Grows
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Luv Kush Srivastava, was behind the wheel when the incident unfolded and the UP Police arrested him on charges of reckless driving, among others. The police claimed that the deceased – aged 17 and 24, both of whom were cousins – were travelling on a motorbike when they were hit by the vehicle near Baikunth Degree College on Katra Bazar road around 9am.
“Both Rehan and Shehzad were run over by the car and died on the spot. The vehicle also lost control and further hit a 60-year-old woman, who was walking on the roadside. The woman, identified as Sita Devi, has been admitted to a hospital and is undergoing treatment,” Karnal Ganj station house officer (SHO) Nirbhay Narayan Singh said.
The victim's kin demanded justice and probe against the Karan on whether he was present inside the SUV at the time of the incident, a charge that Brij Bhushan has vehemently demand.
Faman, the uncle of the deceased boys who were killed by the SUV, claimed that the vehicle was a part of convoy Karan Bhushan. He said soon after the accident they ran to the spot and took the duo to hospital but they could not save them.
“The car overtook and killed our children. We have lost our children. The convoy was of Karan Bhushan. We got to know that it was netaji's car,” he added.
Karan Bhushan Responds to Charges
In first reaction, Karan Bhushan dodged the charges of hit and run case and said, “This was an accident. I was going to Bahraich with four cars and the incident occurred with the cars that were behind me. One woman was crossing the road and to save her, the bikers swerved and were hit by the car.”
"This is an extremely unfortunate incident. We are doing everything that we can do for the family," the Kaiserganj BJP candidate added.
