Good News For North West Delhi: 26-KM Rithala-Narela-Kundli Metro Corridor Gets Nod
The proposed corridor will be 26.5-km long. It will house 21 stations.
New Delhi: In a mega boost to Delhi’s travel infrastructure, the Central govt has given green light to plan to extend the Delhi Metro’s Red Line into the far-flung areas of Northwest Delhi, especially near the Haryana border.
The Public Investment Board (PIB) under the Ministry of Finance gave its nod to the proposal for the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 6,231 crore.
26.5-KM Long Metro Project, 21 Stations
The proposed corridor will be 26.5-km long, housing 21 stations.
The proposed line will consist of following stations: Rohini Sector 25, Rohini Sector 26, Rohini Sector 31, Rohini Sector 32, Rohini Sector 36, Rohini Sector 35, Rohini Sector 34, Barwala, Sanoth, New Sanoth, and Narela, Bawana JJ Colony, two stations in the Bawana Industrial Area, and five stations in the Narela area including Anaj Mandi, Narela DDA Sports Complex, Narela Village, Depot Station, and Narela Sector 5, Kundli, Nathupur.
The Rohini Sector 25 metro station will serve as the interchange station.
Delhi Stretch Cost: Rs 5,685.22 crore
According to sources, the Delhi stretch of the metro extension project, estimated to be around Rs 5,685.22 crore, will get a significant share of funds from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which will contribute Rs 1,000 crore. Whereas, the Centre will bear 40% of this cost, 37.5% will be financed through bilateral and multilateral loans, and approximately 20% will be funded by the Delhi government.
Meanwhile, the Haryana govt will bear 80% of the cost of the metro project in Haryana whereas the remaining 20% will be funded by the central government. The Haryana stretch is lille to cost around Rs 545.77 crore.
Likely to be Completed By 2028
The work on this new corridor is expected to get over within four years. The metro link is expected to provide improved connectivity for the Narela-Bawana-Alipur areas with the rest of Delhi. The much-awaited project will also cater to the long-pending requirements of the Rohini sub-city.
The proposed Metro corridor is expected to bolster several development project in Narela sub-city including Multi-Modal Logistic Park along UER-II, corporate offices, IT-ITeS parks etc.
This new corridor will also facilitate seamless inter-state connectivity between Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), Delhi, and Kundli (Haryana), with an expected daily ridership of 1.26 lakh by 2028, increasing to 3.8 lakh by 2055.
