A Grenade blast has been reported outside a mall on Zoo road in Assam's Guwahati. the police are present at the spot.

Update at May 16, 3:57 PM:

A day after the blast, Assam Police on Thursday carried out search operation in Guwahati's Panjabari area. 

During the searches, the police raided one house raided in Panjabari. As per sources, the plan to carry out the blast was hatched in the house raided by the police. 

During the raid, massive explosives have been recovered from the house:

  • One 9mm pistol
  •  2 magazines
  •  25 rounds of live ammo
  • 40 kgs explosives
  • gelatin sticks

Update at May 16, 8:00 PM

Guwahati Police has cracked down the case. A man and a woman belonging to ULFA have been arrested in connection with case.

Furthermore, the police have recovered a 9mm pistol, 25 rounds, bomb-making equipment, ULFA literature and approx 20 kg gunpowder.

"We've cracked the case," said Guwahati Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar.

As per sources, ULFA-I (United Liberation Front of Assam (I)) Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah has taken responsibility for the attack.

He has said that it was an attack on CRPF petrol, as per sources.

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal has condemned the blast and has been briefed by the Assam DGP.

Update at 8:55 PM:

Guwahati Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar, has confirmed that a grenade blast took place around the mall and six people have suffered injuries. Investigation is underway.

"A grenade blast took place at 8 pm in which six people are injured, the investigation is underway," he said.

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted to strongly condemn the blast in Guwahati.

"Have directed authorities to rush to the spot and take stock of the situation. Also directed DGP to immediately apprehend the culprits and ensure the security of common people," he said.

2 SSB (Armed Border Force) jawans have suffered injuries in the blast.

as per inputs, two unknown bike-borne suspects lobbed a grenade on the state Police troops during patrolling duty and escaped.

8 civilians have suffered injuries and have been evacuated to the hospital.

People heard the blast taking place. We are investigating. We are looking at what kind of explosive is used in the blast. Experts are coming. Two police personnel are injured but it is yet to be verified: Kulodhar Saikiya (DGP Assam)

A blast has been reported outside a mall on Zoo road in Assam's Guwahati on Wednesday evening. The police are present at the spot.

Six people are reported to have been injured in the blast. The injured have been transferred to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.

More details awaited.

Update at 8:44 PM:

The blast is confirmed to have taken place opposite the Central Mall in Assam's capital, at about 7:45 pm.

As per reports, several persons, including a child, have been injured in the blast; some of them are said to be critical. 

The police are yet to ascertain whether it was a grenade or an IED blast.
