Guru Nanak's 550th Jayanti: 90 foreign mission heads to visit Amritsar
The heads of 90 foreign missions will visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar to be a part of celebrations to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev
The heads of foreign missions in India will be visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Tuesday to be a part of the celebrations to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev which is on November 12. According to reports, over 90 heads of the foreign missions are heading towards Amritsar. Further reports stated that the group of diplomats include ambassadors of Australia, Magnolia, Murako, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Maldives, Nepal, and Srilanka. Along with them, the Deputy Chief of US Missions will also be visiting the temple.
The visit
The visit is organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). ICCR, in collaboration with the state government of Punjab and the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, is organizing the tour after the union cabinet decided to celebrate the occasion in a grand manner throughout the country and across the globe. Further, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe are accompanying the heads of missions.
India to sign Kartarpur corridor agreement
According to reports, India will be signing the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor agreement with Pakistan on October 23, before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on November 12. Further, according to a press release, the Ministry of External Affairs said that keeping in mind the interest of Sikh devotees, it has agreed to sign the Kartarpur Corridor with Pakistan despite Pakistan's 'insistence' on $20 fee per pilgrim. On the other hand, India and Pakistan have agreed to Visa-Free Travel for Indian pilgrims through the Kartarpur corridor based on their faith. The Kartarpur Sahib gurudwara is located 4.5 km from the Indian border near Dera Baba Nanak. It is the place where Guru Nanak spent 18 years of his life and was put to rest.
