High-Tech Marijuana Operation Busted in Greater Noida; English Graduate Arrested

Greater Noida: A sophisticated marijuana cultivation operation was recently uncovered in Greater Noida's Beta-2 Parsvnath Panorama society, where police arrested Rahul Chowdhary, an English graduate from Meerut, for allegedly growing and selling premium marijuana varieties on the dark web. The setup involved imported seeds and full-spectrum grow lights, which Chowdhary used to cultivate high-quality cannabis in his flat.Police officials reported that the 26-year-old suspect managed at least 100 marijuana plants, including sought-after strains like OG, selling each plant’s yield on the dark web for between ₹50,000 and ₹60,000. “Chowdhary was inspired to get into the drug trade after watching web series and used to gather information on growing marijuana on the internet,” said an official.Briefing reporters on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saad Mian Khan explained how Chowdhary’s meticulous operation worked. “The accused, Rahul Chowdhary, would grow premium marijuana (OG) in flower pots by purchasing cannabis seeds from an international website, making payments through PayPal. Since he could not expose the plants to sunlight for fear of getting caught, he used full-spectrum lights for the purpose and also had air conditioners set at specific temperatures to facilitate their growth,” Khan said.The police revealed that the cultivation process took around 100-110 days per plant, costing Chowdhary an estimated ₹5,000 to ₹7,000 per plant, yielding him significant profits in the illegal drug market. “During his interrogation, Chowdhary said he started the cultivation around four months ago. It would take him roughly 100-110 days to grow one plant. Cultivating a plant would cost ₹5,000 to ₹7,000 and he would get ₹50,000-Rs 60,000 for each of them on the dark web,” shared the DCP.Chowdhary’s operation is believed to be part of a larger trend of high-tech drug trafficking ventures, a focus of ongoing police crackdowns in the region. “Chowdhary is a graduate in English and he used to watch web series on narcotics and read information on the internet to figure out how to grow marijuana,” the DCP added.
