Lok Janshakti Party chief and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday pitched for all-round promotion of Hindi in the country. He stated that the Constitution should be amended to ensure the use of Indian languages in the Supreme Court and all high courts of the country. He further said that English was meant to serve as the language for official purposes for only 15 years when the Constitution was adopted in 1950 but has still continued to have the same status while Hindi, which was made an official language, has been ignored. Ram Vilas Paswan's statement has come in the light of Home Minister Amit Shah's pitch for 'one nation, one language' on the occasion of Hindi Diwas on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion of Hindi Diwa, Ram Vilas Paswan asserted that language is linked to people's birth place and surroundings, adding that English has been imposed on Indians. Noting that Hindi is currently allowed in only four high courts, Paswan said, "English should not be mandatory but an optional language in our Supreme Court and high courts."

Taking it to Twitter, the Union Minister's son Chirag Paswan said that even after 72 years of independence, Hindi is an unspoken language in courts. In another tweet, he said that the Lok Janshakti Party demands to end the usage of English language in all high courts and Supreme Court. He has also urged them to make the use of Hindi and other Indian languages over English.

Amit Shah's 'one nation, one language' idea

Home Minister Amit Shah pitched the idea of ‘one nation, one language’ on the occasion of Hindi Diwas during a speech in New Delhi on Saturday. While speaking at Vigyan Bhawan, the BJP president proposed that there is a need for the nation to have one language so that foreign languages don't find a place. He added that Indian freedom fighters envisioned Hindi as 'Raj bhasha', assuring that the government will take every step to push Hindi language in the country by next year.
