Hoax Bomb Threat: Delhi Police Arrests Man For Sending Scares At IGI Airport To Draw Attention

The Delhi police nabbed a 25-year-old man, who sent two bomb threats to Delhi’s IGI Airport via a social media account to draw attention and gain publicity.

New Delhi: The Delhi police on Saturday traced and nabbed a 25-year-old man, who sent two bomb threats to Delhi’s IGI Airport via a social media account in order to draw attention and gain publicity. The accused was arrested from the Rajapuri area located in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar and confessed to the act saying that he did it after watching similar news reports on television.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport), Usha Rangnani identified the accused as Shubham Upadhyay (25), who is an unemployed person and is only 12th pass.

DCP Rangnani said, “During the intervening night of October 25th and 26th, two suspicious and potential bomb threat messages were received at IGI Airport via a social media account.”

“Immediate action was taken, and standard security protocols were followed. A case was promptly registered under various sections of BNS, and an investigation was initiated. During the investigation, the threat was found to be a hoax,” the DCP stated.

“During the investigation, the origin of the messages was traced to an account registered to Shubham Upadhyay, a resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi. Based on manual intelligence and technical surveillance, the accused, a 25-year-old resident of Rajapuri, Uttam Nagar, was apprehended. Upon interrogation, he admitted to sending the messages after seeing similar news reports on television, in an attempt to draw attention to himself.”

The police are further investigating the case.
