HRD Minister Pokhriyal lays foundation stone of IIM-Amritsar campus

On October 7, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal laid the foundation stone for the campus of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Amritsar's Manawalla. The institute which has been operational since 2015, has been operating from the Government Polytechnic College near the Guru Nanak Dev University campus. Rs 250 crore more would be allotted for the IIM campus. Punjab's Higher Education Minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Director Nagaraj Ramamurthy and Chairman of Governing Board Sanjay Gupta were also present at the ceremony, tweeted Ramesh Pokhriyal. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has asked the minister to dedicate the institute to Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev on his 550th birth anniversary. Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal also urged the Central Government to dedicate the IIM to Guru Nanak Dev. She congratulated the state of Punjab after the establishment of another world-class institute after AIIMS. She said, "The UPA government neglected the state of Punjab for 10 years but now Punjab has become a priority and has been sanctioned projects like the AIIMS and IIM."
