Hyderabad: 607 Metric tons of ammonium nitrate seized, one held

The Hyderabad police on Tuesday raided a storage facility and recovered a huge amount of illegal 'Ammonium Nitrate'. The ammonium nitrate was stored in two different rooms. The owner of the facility, who had a license for the storage capacity of 400 Metric tons, was apprehended for keeping the material well over the permissible limit and without any safety precaution. 

Speaking to the media Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh Bhagwat said, "On reliable information Bhongir Rural Police raided the 'Vishanth agencies Godown' and found two rooms with RCC roof and found 50 KGs and 25 KGs Ammonium nitrate bags without any fire safety. We also apprehended Godown owner Akinapally Shiva Teja and recorded his confessional statement."

The family accused has been in the business of supplying Ammonium Nitrate for 20 years. The family has built a two rooms RCC building on the outskirts of Gouse Nagar. They also have a license from Chief contractor of explosives, Nagpur, Maharashtra, the officials said. 

He further added that the permitted storage capacity was 400 metric tons but he had stored 600 metric tons illegally and without any safety precautions. After the accused confession Bhongir Rural police seized 25 KGs- 6,755 bags, 50 KGs - 8,784 bags of Ammonium Nitrate total 607.5 Metric tons and remanded the accused into judicial custody, the police said.

Another incident

Two persons were held from a Mumbai-bound train in Surat railway station in Gujarat with 7.5 kilograms of mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant drug, worth Rs 3.5 crore in the illicit market, a DRI official said on October 27. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence official said a team, acting on a tip-off, boarded the Mumbai-bound Rajdhani Express on Saturday morning and made the seizure and arrests.

"The contraband, weighing 7.5 kgs and worth Rs 3.5 crore, was concealed in a bag. The two arrested person hail from Haryana had boarded the train in Delhi and were on their way to deliver the mephedrone to a person in Mumbai," he said. The two have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and probe into the smuggling network operated by them was underway, he said.
