Hyderabad: Four sentenced to six months for attempting suicide

A metropolitan magistrate court at Ibrahimpatan in Hyderabad sentenced four accused to six months of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to commit suicide

A metropolitan magistrate court at Ibrahimpatan in Hyderabad on November 05, sentenced four people to six months of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to commit suicide and damaging property in a government office. 

The case pertained to a November 2014 incident when four accused namely-Chitram Krishna, Polamoni Mahesh, Kanugala Abbasavulu and Nalla Bhaskar Goud were sitting on hunger strike in front of MPDO office, Ibrahimpatnam and later attempted suicide at the rooftop of Indirakanthi scheme building by using Kerosene bottles.

The accused also allegedly barged in the MPDO office and damaged the furniture. In this case, police arrested the accused and remanded them, after completion of an investigation, police also filed a charge sheet in the court. During the trial, the metropolitan magistrate court convicted the accused and sentenced them to six months along with imposing a fine of Rs 500.

Another Incident

Earlier, a student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide on October 29, by jumping off a building on the campus at Kandi in Sangareddy district near the State capital. According to the police, the third-year student identified as Sidharth jumped off the building around 3:23 AM. He was rushed to a hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

"Sidharth had written a suicide note and sent it to his friends through email. In the note, he had said that he was going to commit suicide because he was lagging behind in studies," Circle Inspector Shiva Yadav said.

According to the reports, the note read, “There is a critic within me questioning my every move to the extent that I feel I shouldn’t exist. I shouldn’t exist because I am a self-obsessed guy. I was brought up that way, being compared with my peers all the time. Life rather seems depressing. Never-ending strands of misfortune to an extent that I mentally couldn’t tolerate it. I have no clue how my future is going to be. I have been feeling this for the past two months.”
