Ignored by CoA chief Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji to go to amicus curiae

Supreme court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai has failed to take Diana Edulji onboard while making a plea before the top court on orders pushing the BCCI elections date due to the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. An official reportedly said, Rai and Ravi Thodge are in favour of deferring the board elections, however, Diana Edulji has made her stand very clear not only to the committee but also to the Amicus Curiae.

Vinod Rai calls for deferring BCCI elections, Diana Edulji says otherwise

Diana Edulji had demanded a fair enquiry into alleged sexual harassment against BBCI CEO Rahul Johri earlier this year, which was ignored. 

Vinod Rai has once again failed to get the backing of Amicus Curiae PS Narsimha, who is now being authorised by the apex court to deal with state cricket associations instead of the CoA. The BCCI election date has now been moved from October 22 to October 23, due to upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, CoA issued this advisory on Tuesday. The reasons to extend BCCI elections by a day were well taken by the board members.

A BCCI official alleged, the court gave powers to Amicus Curiae to waive off election notice period on September 20. He questioned the COA’s need to push the date further, accusing Vinod Rai of holding personal grudges against associations who questioned his style of functioning. The Indian skipper has been reported to apprise two members of CoA regarding her concerns and also take up the matter with Amicus Curiae. On the other hand, Rai's petition seeking clarification has been admitted. The petition sought permission granted to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) to hold elections.

Supreme Court orders say that only state associations have failed to comply with BCCI

The petition reported that Rai sought clarifications on two accounts- How can TNCA hold elections for the post of Assistant Secretary and whether the disqualification shall only be confined to those who had held the post of office-bearers of state or in BCCI – from the apex court. Rai cleared the misunderstanding that the non-Indian passport holder clause, a 70-year clause has been done away with, which was not the case.

Supreme Court's orders of September 20 were clear, the court maintained that only TNCA and Haryana state associations have failed to comply with the BCCI constitution., directing them not to re-amend their constitutions. However, a senior official reportedly complained that the Court's orders stated all associations need to comply with the new constitution or else face disqualification. He further added CoA is deliberately creating confusion for the SC judges by claiming some states aren't following orders.
