IIT-Guwahati, AICTE sign MoU to implement scholarships for J&K student
IIT-Guwahati and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) signed an MoU to implement the Prime Minister’s Special Scheme for J&K students.

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday to implement the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir students. According to reports, the main objective of the collaboration is to provide some exposure to the students of Jammu and Kashmir. It is also to advance the academic culture at the higher learning institutes in India. The MoU was signed at the IIT Council meeting between Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Director of IIT Guwahati and Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of AICTE in the presence of Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal and Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD), Sanjay Dhotre.

About the collaboration
According to reports, the MoU will include academic, education and research collaboration. In this, IIT Guwahati will be designing a detailed programme of popular science lectures with their faculty, as well as a few guest faculty. The institute will be enrolling around 100 students from the state of Jammu and Kashmir for an internship at the institute for a month from May 1, 2020, till May 30, 2020. The students will be taken in batches of 25 each. Further reports stated that this internship will focus primarily on research. Further, the Centre of Educational Technology (CET) will also be displaying some model experiments in the field of Chemistry and Physics. The travelling and living expenses of the students will be taken care of by the institutes.

About PM's special scheme for J&K students
Prime Minister's special scheme for the students of Jammu and Kashmir was launched in 2011 for the students of the valley to higher education facilities. The scheme gives a scholarship to the students in regular General/ Professional/Medical Degree courses in the prescribed list of colleges given in the AICTE Portal. The admissions are provided based on the students' merit. through the centralized counselling conducted by the AICTE.
