India Economic Summit 2024 Concludes: FM Sitharaman, Experts Share Views on Viksit Bharat

"India's progress started with UPI... In 2017, a year into our launch, we said we wanted to build something for every Indian. The idea is that nobody should be left behind. We have more than 50 crore users. We have penetrated 40 percent of India and are reaching Tier 6 cities as well. We have started getting domestic investors in the company as well in 2017," PhonePe Founder Sameer Nigam said. 

“India is growing faster than any other economy. This is a rising nation with a young population,” said Dr Arvind Panagariya, Chairman, Finance Commission. 

“We cannot go back to the socialist model…What’s happening in China cannot happen in democratic country like India,” said Dr Arvind Panagariya, Chairman, Finance Commission.

“Our Aviation industry is progressing in the direction as per what Indian customers expect. We don’t need to compare ourselves with Emirates airlines or American airlines,” said Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu

“We had 74 airports in 2014. Now we had doubled it upto 157 airports. Number of travellers have also doubled in the past 10 years. No other country has recorded this growth in civil aviation in past 10 years,” said Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu 

“India has to compete in areas of quality and value addition…We will have to see a long-term chain of development…We should keep national security as our top priority in terms of trade and investment,” said Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, the Confederation of Indian Industry.

"We are moving from a country of savers to investors. Earlier, banking was about saving money, it was not about investing money. Now we are shifting towards a country that is comfortable with investing," said Rashesh Shah, Chairman, Edelweiss Group. 

“Mutual funds were an alien product in rural India. However, now, mutual funds are more searched for in rural areas funds than in urban cities. Trends in mutual fund is changing rapidly,” said Sundeep Sikka, ED & CEO, Nippon India MF at India Economic Summit.

At the fourth edition of Republic's India Economic Summit 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman , when asked by Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami on the issue of prioritizing Chinese investments over national interest, firmly stated that the Indian government has 'no compromise here.'

Editor-in-chief Arnab said, "How do you balance the economic potential of Chinese investment and investment from other countries with the imperative of making our national interest and economic sovereignty as well"
