'India is a Huge Market for Medical tourism': Dr Sanjeev Singh at IES 2024
Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director at Amrita Institute, emphasized advancing healthcare and workforce skills in India at the Republic’s India Economic Summit.
India Economic Summit: At the Republic Media Network’s India Economic Summit , Dr Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and a Professor of Pediatrics and Hospital Administration, shared valuable insights into the future of healthcare in India and the emergence of Artificial Intelligence in the medicine sector.
A well known leader in paediatrics and hospital administration, Dr Singh talked about the critical need for advancing healthcare services and improving workforce capabilities to meet the evolving demands of the sector.
During his address, Dr. Singh discussed various strategies for enhancing healthcare delivery in India, with a focus on strengthening the healthcare workforce, improving medical education, and leveraging technology to drive innovation in healthcare services.
Dr Singh also discussed key government initiatives such as 'Kayakalp' and 'LaQshya,' aimed at enhancing healthcare and medical care standards in India. He stressed the importance of making healthcare more affordable, especially as the rising costs of medical services continue to pose challenges.
Noting India’s diverse population and high disease burden, Dr Singh pointed out that the country ranks 144th globally in terms of health outcomes. On the other hand, he also highlighted improvements, such as the increase in life expectancy, which has risen from 32 to 74 years.
“India is largely Populus plus extremely diverse. The global burden of disease we are ranked 144 and unfortunately it is both communicable and non-communicable disease. As key performing indicators, we have done pretty well. There has been an improvement in the life expectancy, which we have seen from 32 to almost 74”, Dr Singh said.
He also shared about India being a huge market for medical tourism. “It is close to $125 billion industry, India captures almost $13 Billion. India was ranking close to 77 and has now come up to 10”, Dr Singh said.
