On the Assam government's decision to repeal the Assam Muslim Marriages and Divorce Registration Act and Rules 1935, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Under the Assam Muslim Marriage Act, child marriage was permitted. We scraped it and brought an ordinance. We will now make that ordinance a bill. A new law will come under which the registration for Muslim marriage will take place in a government office within the legal age bar of 18 and 21 years. If 80% of child marriages are happening in the minorities, 20% are happening in the majority community. I am not looking at child marriage from a religious angle. Our attempt is that there should be gender justice and child marriage should be reduced. In Assam, child marriage is on the verge of being abolished."

In Maharashtra's Jalna district, a massive road accident reportedly claimed several lives. Jalna DM Shrikrishnanath Panchal said, "Some people were returning from Pandharpur. 15 people were seated in one vehicle out of which, 7 people unfortunately died. The remaining 8 including the driver are undergoing treatment. The Chief Minister called and took cognisance of the situation and also details of the deceased. He instructed the administration to take all the treatment expenses."

The victims injured in the Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express train accident are treated at Gonda's Babu Ishwar Sharan District Hospital in Uttar Pradesh. As per North Eastern Railway General Manager Saumya Mathur, 2 people died and 31 others got injured.

As per Gonda DM, two people have died and around 20 are injured in the incident in Gonda train derailment case.

One NDRF team each was sent from Lucknow and Balrampur to Gonda. 5 ambulances were deployed for rescue operations in the train accident and orders have been given to send more ambulances to the spot. First aid is being given to the injured. The injured are being shifted to the hospital. SDRF teams sent from three districts to expedite relief operations, said Relief Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh. 

Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has been briefed about the derailment of the Dibrugarh - Chandigarh express in Uttar Pradesh. He is monitoring the situation and the Government of Assam is in touch with relevant authorities, said CMO. 

 On the Dibrugarh-Chandigarh express derailment, Pankaj Singh, CPRO, North Eastern Railway says, "...medical van of Railways has reached the spot and rescue operation has been started. Helpline numbers have been issued. It happened around 2.37 pm. As per initial info, 4-5 coaches derailed..."

In regard with the derailment of 15904 Dibrugarh Express in Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway, the helpline numbers are issued: Indian Railways.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will pay a two-day visit to Bhutan beginning Friday, in his first trip abroad after assuming charge of the top post. In Bhutanese capital Thimphu, Misri will meet Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Foreign Minister DN Dhungyel and Foreign Secretary Pema Choden among others. The foreign secretary's visit underscores the "highest priority" the government of India attaches to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said announcing the visit.

"Manorama Khedkar has been detained from Mahad in Raigad district and she is being brought to Pune where, after the completion of formalities, she will be placed under arrest," Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, Pankaj Deshmukh, said.

Multiple teams had been formed to trace Manorama, her husband and five others accused in the case.

Police have detained Manorama Khedkar, mother of controversial IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, in a case of allegedly threatening some persons by brandishing a gun over a land dispute, officials said on Wednesday.

She was apprehended from Mahad in Maharashtra's Raigad district, a Pune police official said.

The Pune ACB has received a complaint seeking an open inquiry against Dilip Khedkar, a retired government officer and father of controversial IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, in connection with alleged disproportionate assets, a senior official said. As there is already an inquiry underway by the Anti-Corruption Bureau's Nashik division against him into the alleged disproportionate assets, the Pune unit of the anti-graft agency has sought directions from the ACB headquarters.

Two security personnel lost their lives whereas four got injured in IED blast triggered by naxals in Bijapur district, confirmed Bastar Police. The security personnel who were part of an anti-naxal operation in the district were returning from the search operation when the incident happened.

Two soldiers were injured in an encounter with terrorists in a forest village in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district early Thursday, officials said. The encounter took place at Jaddan Bata village in Kastigarh area around 2:00 am when terrorists opened fire on a temporary security camp established in a government school for the ongoing search operations, the officials said.
