“He had built a special camp for women and children and he told the women and children of the camp that just like the people of Jamnagar call me Bapu, I am your Bapu too,” the Prime Minister said.
"India is going to start the Jam Sahib Memorial Youth Action program. As part of this program, 20 Polish youths will be invited to come to India. This way Polish youths will get to learn more about India,” PM Modi announced, adding that the Kolhapur Memorial in Warsaw is a tribute by Poland to the Kolhapur royal family.
"Poland was one of the first countries to assist when Jamnagar and Gujarat were hit by an earthquake two decades ago. The people of Poland have given a lot of love and respect to Jam Saheb and his family members, and the Good Maharaja Square is a testimony of that. Today, I have visited the Dobry Maharaja Memorial and Kolhapur Memorial. On this occasion, I want to announce that India has decided to launch the Jam Saheb Memorial Youth Action programme," said PM Modi.
"Today, I have had the opportunity to pay tribute at the ‘Monte Cassino memorial’. This memorial reminds us of the sacrifice of thousands of Indian soldiers. This is proof of how Indians have performed their duty in every corner of the world," PM Modi recalled the sacrifice made by the Indian soldiers in Poland.
Earlier, before departing for Poland, the Prime Minister stated that his visit comes as both the countries mark 70 years of diplomatic relations.
"My visit to Poland comes as we mark 70 years of our diplomatic relations. Poland is a key economic partner in Central Europe. Our mutual commitment to democracy and pluralism further reinforces our relationship. I look forward to meeting my friend Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda to further advance our partnership," PM Modi said in a statement.
